Tongariro Alpine Crossing was one of the big challenges in my life. It is the best one-day trek available in New Zealand and it ranks among the top ten single-day treks in the world.

Tongariro Alpine Crossing foi um dos grandes desafios na minha vida. É considerado o melhor trek de um dia disponível na Nova Zelândia e se classifica entre os dez melhores passeios em um único dia no mundo.

Mt Ngauruhoe is around 2,500 years old and is the youngest of the three volcanoes in the Tongariro National Park. Its relative youth gives rise to a more regular volcano shape with steep slopes. Local Maori traditionally considered Mount Ngauruhoe and Mount Tongariro to be one mountain and geologists regard Mount Ngauruhoe as being a secondary cone of Mount Tongariro’s structure. Volcanic Activity Mt Ngauruhoe has erupted 45 times in the 20th century alone, making it the most active of the three volcanoes in Tongariro National Park, however the last major eruption took place in 1975, with no recent signs of unrest.

A sua relativa juventude dá origem a uma forma de vulcão mais regular, com declives acentuados. Os nativos (Maori) consideram Ngauruhoe e Monte Tongariro como uma única montanha mas os geólogos consideram Ngauruhoe como sendo um cone secundário da estrutura do Monte Tongariro. Atividade vulcânica Mt Ngauruhoe entrou em erupção 45 vezes no século 20 sozinho, tornando-o mais ativo dos três vulcões em Tongariro National Park, no entanto, a última grande erupção ocorreu em 1975, sem sinais recentes de instabilidade. Ainda bem que ele não entrou em erupção quando eu estava la. :)

The Lord of the Rings

In 2000, Tongariro National Park was home to the most sinister of the Lord of the Rings locations, Mordor, which is the strong hold of the dark Lord Sauron. Mordor, is the great volcanic plateau filled with geological wonders known as Gorgoroth. Much of Frodo and Sam's journey into the land of Sauron was filmed on and around the Tongariro National Park.

Em 2000, o Parque Nacional de Tongariro foi um dos cenários mais sinistro do Senhor dos Anéis, Mordor, que é a fortaleza do Senhor das Trevas Sauron. Mordor, é o grande planalto vulcânico cheio de maravilhas geológicas conhecidas como Gorgoroth. Grande parte de Frodo e Sam viagem para a terra de Sauron foi filmado em torno do Parque Nacional de Tongariro.

I started the trekking at 7:00 am and finished at 16:00 hs (9 hours).
The first part was easy...

Eu comecei a caminhada as 7:00 da manha e terminei as 16:00 hrs (9 horas de caminhada).
A primeira parte foi fácil...

After 5 km, I started to prepare myself mentally for the challenge ahead.

The track to Mt Ngauruhoe Summit (2291 meters) started at the top of the Devil's Staircase. This track is extremely dangerous and the warning says: it should be only be attempted if I found the Devil's Staircase easy'. I personally didn't find it easy but I was keen to continue the track.

The sidetrack should only be attempted if the weather is totally clear. You can see on the pictures that I was lucky, the day was beautiful. The people that tried one day before couldn't go to the top due to the bad weather (cloudy and windy). My mom always says that I am lucky man and I need to agree!

Após 5 km, comecei a me preparar mentalmente para o desafio à frente.

A trilha para o Monte Ngauruhoe Summit (2.291 metros) começa no topo da Escadaria do Diabo (o nome já diz tudo). Esta faixa é extremamente perigosa e o aviso diz que eu deveria apenas continuar se eu achar a Escadaria do Diabo fácil. Eu, pessoalmente, não achei que foi fácil, mas eu estava ansioso para continuar a trilha.

A subida só deve ser tentada se o tempo estiver bom. Você pode ver nas imagens que eu tive sorte, o dia estava lindo. As pessoas que tentaram um dia antes não conseguiram ir ao ao topo devido ao mau tempo (nublado e ventoso). Minha mãe sempre diz que eu sou um homem de sorte e eu preciso concordar com ela!

Half way to go and I was happy! I didn't know that the worse part was coming...

Meio caminho a percorrer e eu estava feliz! Eu não sabia que a pior parte estava por vir ...

Some parts of the mountain were not easy to climb and I was practically crawling upright.. However, when I reached the top of Mt Ngauruhoe the view was amazing and made up for all the efforts made to get there.

Algumas partes da montanha não eram fáceis de escalar e eu estava praticamente engatinhando na posição vertical. No entanto, quando cheguei ao topo do Monte Ngauruhoe a vista era incrível e compensou todos os esforços feitos para chegar até lá.

From Blue Lake to Ketetahi Shelter

After Ketetahi Shelter I walked to Ketetahi Car Park. The last bus should leave at 16:30hrs and also I was in a hazard zone. Then, I was in a rush... :)

Após Ketetahi Shelter eu caminhei para o estacionamento Ketetahi. O último ônibus ia sair às 16:30 horas e eu estava em uma zona de perigo (Vulcão ativo) Então, eu estava com pressa ... :)

Nevis - Bungy

I also decided to jump the Nevis - it is the highest Bungy (134 meters) in New Zealand (Queenstown). It was easy and I was more excited than nervous (one day before I was nervous).

The sensation of freedom was amazing!!!

Eu também decidi saltar de Bungy jump Nevis - o mais alto (134 metros), na Nova Zelândia (Queenstown). Foi fácil e eu estava mais animado do que nervoso (um dia antes eu estava nervoso).

A sensação de liberdade foi incrível!!

I loved Sydney!

I had planned to stay only 4 nights in Sydney because I was planning to go to the Gold Coast for a week. However, on the second day I was sick and I decided to relax and to stay longer in Sydney. It was a good decision and God knows what he does.
Sometimes we need to change our plan, adapt and have fun.

Eu amei Sydney!

Eu tinha planejado ficar apenas 4 noites em Sydney, pois eu estava planejando ir para a Gold Coast por uma semana. No entanto, no segundo dia fiquei doente e eu decidi relaxar e ficar mais tempo em Sydney. Foi uma boa decisão e Deus sabe o que faz.
Às vezes, precisamos mudar nosso plano, se adaptar e se divertir.

Curiosity: These are the smallest penguins and they are not black and white. They are blue and white. It helps them to camouflage on the ocean.

Shark Dive Xtreme

Yes, I did the Shark Dive Xtreme, it was my first time diving and I was excited and nervous at the same time. The Grey Nurse Shark is cousin of the great white shark. Despite its fearsome appearance and strong swimming ability, it is a relatively placid and slow-moving shark with NO confirmed human fatalities. Fortunately, I was not the first one.

Sim, eu fiz o Mergulho com o tubarão, foi a minha primeira vez mergulhando e eu estava animado e nervoso ao mesmo tempo. The Grey Nurse tubarão é primo do grande tubarão branco. Apesar de sua aparência temível e forte capacidade de nadar, é um tubarão relativamente calmo e lento, sem casos fatais humanos confirmados. Felizmente, eu não fui o primeiro.

One of these sharks was born in Manly SEA LIFE Sanctuary. This is the only aquarium in the world that successfully bred the Grey Nurse Shark.

Um desses tubarões nasceu em Manly SEA LIFE Santuário. Este e o único aquário do mundo que conseguiu procriar com sucesso o tubarão Grey Nurse.

The best find was this turtle rescued on a local beach with severe injuries to her left flipper. Unfortunately she lost this flipper, but with the help of Manly SEA LIFE Sanctuary staff, she learned to swim and dive again. O melhor foi encontrar essa tartaruga resgatada em uma praia local com ferimentos graves na sua nadadeira esquerda. Infelizmente ela perdeu a nadadeira, mas com a ajuda de funcionários do Manly SEA LIFE Sanctuary, ela aprendeu a nadar e mergulhar novamente.

Of course I could not miss the Koalas and Kangaroos in Australia

To protect the koalas of stress (can cause death), there is a new regulation that the public cannot cuddle koalas in Sydney and the rest of NSW (New South Wales). Then, I decided to cuddle a python snake and play with the crocodile.

Para proteger os coalas de estresse (que pode causar a morte), há um novo regulamento que o público não pode abraçar coalas em Sydney e no resto do NSW. Então, decidi abraçar uma cobra python e brincar com o crocodilo.
